ok I have a question, I was cleaning my gun and the tip of my ram rod fell off inside the barrel and I cant get it out. I was wondering if there was a trick to getting it out. because I don't really want to buy a new barrel. I would be grateful for any help.
thanks Kawika

I suggest you use an air compressor to blow it out. If you don't have one, perhaps you know someone who does or take the barrel to a station or mechanic's shop that does. Take time to order a CO2 discharger/unloader. Most of us keep one in our shooting boxes, whether at the range or for use when such incidents happen at home like you describe.

Log Cabin Shop, as well as other outlets, sells them.

A good air compressor should blow it out. If that doesn't work, just put a little bit of powder in through the nipple hole, replace the nipple, push the rod tip all the way down onto the powder (this is a very important step) and then shoot it into a dirt bank where you can retrieve it. Then replace it on your rod and cross pin it so it doesn't come off again.

I got it out. i had to use black powder because i think my air compressor didn't have enough psi.
but it came right out with about 5 grains of bp. I will definitely put a pin on my ram rod.
Thanks for all the help.

Don't forget.

Sooner or later, your going to load a ball or bullet without any powder under it. It happens to the best of us, especially if we aren't paying attention to what were doing.

When this happens, just ram the ball down to the breech, work about 4-10 grains of powder thru the vent hole, prime the pan and fire the gun downrange.

Even with just 3-4 grains of powder, the ball will come flying out at a very respectable speed so be careful where you aim it.

I would work some powder through the vent FIRST, THEN seat the ball down on top but make sure you have put at least 5 or 10 grains in, because if you seat the ball down first you won't have any room for the powder cause the ball is in the way, now this is for a flat breech, if you have a patent breech you can go ahead and seat the ball first if you want to.
