Carmel Indiana. Has a huge gravel company, been there long before any development of homes. Blasted , dug transported gravel for many years then income development. Now the gravel company has many, many restrictions even dust conc
Illinois is a whole different world than Montana.Check your state laws on shooting ranges. It is nearly impossible to shut down a private range here in Montana. I registered mine with the state on advise of a deputy friend over 35 years ago.
I recall a case where a new housing development wanted a shooting range shut down. The land the range was on was zoned agricultural, so the range users put the word out they would be replacing the range with a close confinement hog farm. That was liked even less than olethe shooting,
Someone moved next to a hog feed out operation near here and tried to shut it down because of the smell. That did not work out well for him.Hold a fundraiser to buy them noise-cancelling headphones.
Seriously, if they didn't know of your existence before moving, that's on them or their realtor. Can't move next to a farm and then complain about the rooster.
We in Nelson NZ have just the same situation only one man in a remote place being a PITA he bought the place 40 odd years ago but now moans about the noise !. Police use it three times mid week but he doesn't moan to them. A chuffin nuisance but this isn't unusual these days .Unfortunately, lead litigation doesn't surprise me. Since your in a liberal state (like me) you may have legitimate concerns depending on the county you live in and how far the complainant is willing to go.
I live in a liberal state, however the county I live in is very conservative. We had a similar situation, a new development moved in and put up some fancy new houses next to the sportsman club. They tried to shut the club down, but the club was there much longer than the new neighbors. The local Judge told them to pound sand, the club was there 1st and the home buyers should have thought about their purchase of a home next to an existing gun range.
Sounds like the same type of libs that move into the country side and insist that the farmer next door must stop spreading MANURE on his field.Maybe Trump will deport them back to California.
My wife is a country girl but she still gives me hell each spring when I have chicken litter {manure} on our pastures!Sounds like the same type of libs that move into the country side and insist that the farmer next door must stop spreading MANURE on his field.
one can only hope. did you see italy is offering $1.00 homes to people who want to flee.?? ill help them pack.Chances are they will flee the country shortly anyway...
Wow thanks for all the replies. The property the gun range is on is owned by the township. We our sportsman club had a 99 verbal lease. We thought it was recorded but the township said it was verbal only ( ? ). We are now rewriting it to a ten year lease as of me writing this. The anonymous two trouble makers are no longer anonymous and the there life has been changed quite a bit. Lets just say the small town welcome mat is being pulled out from under them..!
Thanks everyone.
I can understand the farmer next to my farm spreads that stuff on his fields man that makes your eyes waterMy wife is a country girl but she still gives me hell each spring when I have chicken litter {manure} on our pastures!
Life in a small town has a way of ironing out troublemakers especially if it annoys the town as a whole.Wow thanks for all the replies. The property the gun range is on is owned by the township. My old Dad would use that on our hay fields, also. Lush green hay when applied that year, especially on the bermuda grass. Obvious inferior hay when not.My wife is a country girl but she still gives me hell each spring when I have chicken litter {manure} on our pastures!
Working on and around farms when young will definitely adjust what you think stinks. My old Dad would use that on our hay fields, also. Lush green hay when applied that year, especially on the bermuda grass. Obvious inferior hay when not.
People in concrete cities, insulated from traditional rural and farming lifestyles, become over sensitive to the organic odors. The gut cavity odors when butchering, horse and cow barns, etc. LOL city folks probably would not take another drink of milk if they wisited a odiferous steaming humid milking barn during "production".
The lead should be contained in berms. We have a small public gun range. It has been in use for 50 plus years. No issues an no problems. Now because of a couple of people that moved to our area recently from California. They want it closed because of noise and lead contamination.
Any legal non violent suggestions ? Anyone else have to deal with this ?
Similar but different; the Greens tried to close a range near a large NSW town because of lead pollution and to bolster their case calculated the amount of lead based on the number of rounds fired and the calibres usedOur club had a similar problem. The expert soil scientist we hired for the public hearing debunked all the concerns of the lead in the ground. To appease the neighbors, and to settle before it go too expensive, the club built new sand back stops for the ranges, and every 3 years we screen the sand to remove the lead which is sold for scrap or to club members that cast their own bullets
