i have a birch rifle stock, this is a pc of the wood it came from, i used fiebings leather dye diluted and then for fun striped it with undiluted dye. now i know the stripes need some refining.
what do you think of the color and shade? keep in mind this is birch and an ugly wood, hard to get a nice finish.
thanks

If you are experimenting Tom, Try using Artist refined linseed, It's thinner and clear. Add a small quantity of Hardener like Terabine. It won't stop it penetrating but it will harden quicker. Great when you have time and it's finished but don't be tempted to Hurry it. Just keep adding and rubbing. The wood will tell you when it's had enough. OLD DOG..
