Is there a vast difference between using Renaissance Paste Wax and Johnson's Paste Wax. I know that Renaissance is considerable more expensive.

We use renwax for conservation of delicate artifacts. It is good stuff, but I would not recommend it for a gun stock that gets carried. My go to wax is Liberon Black Bison (neutral), which is also kind of pricey, but effective. Sometimes I follow that up with Myland's Friction Polish.

All that being said, floor wax works reasonably well.

For a lot of years now, after a day of shooting a match or out just playing, I clean my guns and afterward just rub the stock down with a light coat of Bore Butter. I have tried other brands, and if hanging up a rifle on a wall for years...I would probably use a Renaissance wax or something similar. The Bore Butter has served me well thus far though....
