Using quotes in their original language is not done to impress the reader, but rather to refer longevity of their respective truths and/or implications.

As for being told to learn American, my family pre-dates the Revolutionary War in the central Ohio Valley, and they spoke Scots Gaelic when they arrived in the Colonies.
