Really don't need a hotshot in my view. I've never needed one.
Sounds like you are not getting enough powder in the flash channel under the nipple when loading.
And/Or, if you are field swabbing, make sure you are not leaving moisture, lube or fouling pressed into the flash channel in the bolster, thus preventing powder from collecting in this area or getting it moist or damp.
If field swabbing, use an alcohol patch after a slightly moist/damp (not wet) patch to further clean and evaporate moisture, then dry patch or two.
You need to ensure that your are keeping the nipple and flash channel in the bolster relatively clear.
Simply running a wire into the nipple on occasion may not do it but often will. Depending on how much fouling is getting pushed into the breech area, you may need to pull the nipple every now and then and clean the flash channel & nipple and then lube and re-install the nipple for extended shooting sessions.
When loading your powder, add your powder and then tap lightly on the side of the bolster/barrel stock area with your hand to "shake" powder into the flash channel in the bolster. Then load your projectile normally.
So long as your nipple and flash channel are clear, I've never had a delayed fire with this little procedure of tapping some powder into the flash channel.
