There has been much discussion on the reality of short or ball starters. Numerous arguments on their existence prevails. No matter your belief or thoughts, in 2017 Spence on this forum Provided this information:

As per this ad, others are available. Just PM me.
Thanks.

Just received my ball starter. I am quite pleased indeed. He made it to my desired length and wood choice. Thank you sir! Well done.

I am traveling a lot lately but have the time over the next couple of weeks to make up a few of these starters. As per the listing, send me your wishes, i.e., diameter of brass rod, wood choice (color, light or dark) and whether you want it tapped 8-32 or 10-32 or not. Price the same $18.50 shipped to you. Thanks.

Another happy customer as mine just arrived.
.5” brass rod, nicely concave on the ball end, with the length rod and wood I requested. Feels real solid. Best Product Quality/$ Value purchase that I’ve had in a long long while.
Does the OP have a website as a business card came with the order?

One thought, sell them bare wood so the purchaser has the option to use the same products that they are using on their stock.

Hi again. I made a few starters last week and have time to make some more this week. As the ads indicate, I use multiple woods and various brass rod sizes. Price is still the same, $18.50 shipped to you.
Thanks for looking.
