I soldered mine on with staybrite silver bearing solder. It flows at, I believe, 430°. I made it from 1/8" brass. It has held up well so far, but I don't think it would survive a serious side blow. The profile is much lower than in the photo now, after sighting in with it and filing down, so that helps. You could cut a thin brass circle, form it as a saddle, silver braze the blade to the saddle, then soft solder the unit to the barrel. That would be plenty strong. The sight helps me in shooting, but I wouldn't consider it a neccesity. Although, with most shots, I can hit a torso size target at 20/25 yrds. using the sight.
