Learn something new every day, well almost. I have had a Cabelas Hawkin 50/58 for 20 years and I bought it used. I have been told several different stories on who made it but it does have the "I" in a square so it was made by Invest Arms.

I couldn't find on GB. Must have sold before I looked. I have looked at lots of BP guns on GB but all that had a listing w a manufacturer had markings on the barrel. I just don't understand why this one has none. Regardless I have gotten some good advice and I apprecviate it. Thanks Guys!!

K in the serial number could mean it's a kit gun. :idunno: Manufactures stamp may have been draw filed off the barrel. I know several who have done just that. Myself included  Does the rear sight have a little side to side play in the dove tail/blade? I'm talking about the area where you would line up the front sight I know it's not dove tailed into the barrel. A lot of the Investarms will have a little play in this area where most TC's will not. :hmm:

Yes the dovetail does have play. You can push on the side screw and it will travel towards the other side. It has a spring on the screw and returns when you let go. When you turn the screw it will move the position of the dovetail. Doesn't seem very stable to me. I would think you would want the dovetail stationary and not at the whim of a spring.

Funny you should mention your Cabelas Hawken. A while back I bought what I've been calling a .54 cal. percussion Lyman Deerstalker. Beyond the Investarms stamp & Proof date stamp, I never paid much attention. Looking again, it doesn't have any Lyman references in it anywhere. I had always wondered about the checkered stock, and just figgered the previous owner had checkered it. Ends up it's one of the Cabelas "Sporterized" Hawkens - looks nice with that checkering.

That play is typical of the Investarms guns. The TC sights are better built and don't have as much travel/ play if any. I own 2 or 3 of each.  The Investarms, I bought at Pawn Shops for a soooong and put GM barrels on them back when they were cheap and available.

Just picked up one of these rifles from a guy locally a few days ago and had no idea what it was. Its identical to the one you'vegot Gunclinger, but yours is a lot cleaner:)

This thread gave me great info, thanks guys..very cool that this is the same as Lymans trade gun..what a bargain that makes the Investarms as just the lack of the brand name seems to subtract several hundred bucks off their resale price. J

Yes johnnyreb , they have helped a lot with the info! When I picked up the gun I asked if they knew anything about it and they just smiled and said " not a thing". So I was on my own and starting to worry that I had made a big mistake! I feel a lot better with the help I've gotten!

I ordered a nipple for a 6x.75 investarm, lyman, Cabela muzzleloader. It fits but it is too high and does not line up with the hammer. The lug to tighten appears to be quite a bit thicker and causes the missalignment. Is that going to be a problem? Pictures of the old nipple and the new one.

What is the total length of the correct nipple? I just might have a new one I could send you and tell you where it came from as well.
I just went to school on that exact subject, and can tell you about three different lengths. Barry

Looks like it is 5/8. I ordered 2 RLP-S nipples from Track of the Wolf. I have no idea if they will work. I post the pics in case I am measuring wrong.

The Possible Shop, Ampco, #12-50-66, .600" total length. Old lyman rifle nipple. That's the one that fits my Investarms. The newer lyman nipple is .636" total length. A hot shot is .636"...at least the one I have is. The important measurement is from what I guess you call the shoulder, to the tip and the nipple in your pictures is the same as mine.
TOW's RLP-S might just be the right one. I could not decide between it and the RLP-MS, so I went to the Possible Shop site, which stated the lengths. From there I could compare to what I already had, that needed replacing.
I have another nipple that is even shorter. It's .540" total length.

I'm currently using the Treso/Ampco #11-50-03 on my Investarms, and also have the RLP-S (for #11 caps) and RLP-M (for Musket Caps).

Treso/Ampco #11-50-03 OAL is: .635" (16.15mm) and shoulder to tip is .443" (11.25mm)

RLP-S OAL is: .634" (16.11mm)
shoulder to tip is: .443" (11.4mm)

RLP-M OAL is: .634" (16.11mm)
shoulder to tip is: .433" (11.4mm)

The Tresco/Ampco I have is #12-05-66 on the possible shop website, but is marked 11-50-66 on the package. It is .601" total, and .388" from shoulder to tip. Fits my 1989 model very well.

Dud, I got 2 RLP-S nipples and they are too long. The 12-50-66 from Possibleshop is close to fitting. I haven't been able to try it yet as it is raining here!!!!

I still have a new NP1375, from Dixie Gun Works. It measures .540" total, .318" from shoulder to tip. It is too short for my gun, and will be in the mail to you tomorrow.
How does the 12-50-66 compare, in length, to your original nipple?
