I’m considering selling this gun but first trying to figure out what I have. I can see any markings but believe it is pre 1860 and a plains rifle.
Any help anyone can provide would be appreciated

What is the barrel width across the flats? Barrel length? Is it a set trigger? Picture of the lock and trigger out of the gun might help some.

You think so? I’m not looking to keep it and someone is offering $400 - it that reasonable you think?
Does the tang sight have any markings? It could be worth some money depending on what it is. If it were me, I'd find out a little more about what you have before taking 400. How is the bore condition?

If it's a run of the mill tang sight and the bore isn't great, 400 probably isn't a bad deal.

Depends, I only buy what can be shot. More pictures of the lock, triggers, breech, bore and nipple area would help assess the rifle. Can you remove the nipple?

Thanks. Let me look more closely at tang sight. As far as I can see bore looks clear

$400 is a lowball offer in my opinion. Guessing someone knows what you have and is looking for a deal.

Get some values from real appraisers before setting a price. And if an appraiser offers to buy the gun or knows someone who would buy it, move along to another appraiser.

You may want to contact Track of the Wolf. They will likely give an offer to buy the gun outright at ‘wholesale’ or will sell it on consignment. Probably a chunk of money less than you could get for it in the right setting, but you will at least have a bottom dollar value.
