I just came across one of the cva Kentucky kit rifles. The past owner did a pretty good job on the assembly and finish. I couldnt beat the deal($25). The owner couldnt get the rifle to fire and actually asked me to buy it and get it fixed. Said he hated to see a nice rifle collecting dust. I tore the lock apart and found the problem. The flat spring that holds tension on the sear is broken in half which keps the sear from engaging. Anyone know where I could find one cheap? I was thinking Deer Creek. I'd hate to pay more for the tension spring than I did on the gun. Any of you guys have one you'd be willing to part with?.

Ok, One more question. Is it possible to replace the single trigger with a double set trigger? If so, how hard would it be? That might be two questions. Thanks in advance for any advise.

I have a couple, and you stole it for 25!

I would contact Deer Creek for the part you need. The double set trigger swap, I gonna require some inletting, and who knows what else.

Great shooters they are

Deer Creek only charged me 2.00 for my sear spring for my Mt Rifle. I have one but I have four rifles that it will fit. Iam keeping it. Dilly

Deer Creek will have the part - shipping costs will exceed the part cost though.

Can you put in set triggers, sure! It just takes work and money. You will need a lock with a fly and set triggers to start with. Then you need to start inletting...

Well, I just ordered a lock parts set for it. I cost more than the rifle but it gives me a reason to work on another CVA in the future. Gonna be a while though. I picked up a used Pedersoli Kentuck for $199 last week. The barrel looked good, no rust that I could see. The stock needs some work. A few scratches and a bad finish, should be fun to restore. Might try my hand at some wire inlay. I'm thinking I should practice on the CVA fist. Gonna make my first attempt at browning a barrel too. practice makes perfect.

This one had a real nasty wood and stain job, and I had my way with it. I have another, that I am gonna really distress and set on fire :)

A single set trigger should go in without too much hassle. You can als put in double set triggers with a little more work. The problem is the one Pork Chop mentioned. You need a lock with a fly. You can use a single set without a fly but you have to tighten up the main spring on the trigger to the point where you have to set the trigger to cock the rifle. That would keep the sear away from the tumbler while firing.

The "Deluxe" Maslin lock with the bridal and fly runs about $80-$90. For a few dollars more you can get an L&R replacement lock.

Wow Mule, love the color. What stain did you use? It's exactly the color I'd like to stain this one after I get it cleaned up. Also if you dont mind sharing your secret, how did you do the striping? It it came out great. Did you antique the brass or give it good polish?
