Hated to hear about that...I guess I first read about him in Foxfire 5 and later purchased his DVD and instructional booklet on building a flintlock when I built my first in 1988..

Hershel could build a gun from dirt. We have lost a muzzleloading ICON. RIP , Hershel.

Both Hershel and John House were my knife making mentors at Cantors Cave in Jackson Ohio. I was so proud to work with Hershel and call him my friend. He will surely be missed. There needs to be a national holiday recognizing Hershel for the great person he was.
