I got some leather today to make me some ball pouchs. I was wondering has anyone made one? My first one came out ok, but I would like to be able to steach one togeather so I can't see the seam when I turn it right side out.

What you show is a whip stich on your bag. I think you will need to use a saddle stich and maybe even include a welt to hide the stiching.
Hopefully LeatherMoose will jump in and add his thoughts.

Huntnut try stiching yer leather parralel(sp) to the edge, looks like yer sewing perpendicular to it.Ya also can fancy it up a mite by putting a welt between the pieces of leather and then trimming it off when ya turn it right side out. The welt is just a strip of leather or colored wool that ya place between the pieces of leather before ya sew it, It also helps strengthen the seam when yer done. hope this ain't to confuseing YMHS Birdman

:) Nice job I have one I made a while back out of a squirrel hyde the tail makes a nice draw string hair off. I do not own a digital camera but I stitched the seam inside the bag using an "awl for All" their hyde is good and thick. holds the 54 cal roundballs. have to enter the digital age with the tax return.

Dave and the rest have it pretty well covered: build it inside out, saddle stitch it with waxed linen thread, use a welt about 3/8th inch wide to hide your stitches. Then turn it and trim the welt if it sticks out too far.
That's real nice leather, it has a pretty texture to it and it won't fight you much when you turn it, by the look of it.
Do a search here on saddle stitch if you don't know what we're babbling about.
Stitch on!

Well I did another one tonight and it came out alot better. I used saddle stitch, it made a nice tight seam. I don't under stand the welt thing but I guess I will find out soon how to put it in. I'll post a pic tommorow of it, I'm going to make a funnel and stoper out of antler tommorow for it.

Picture a sandwich. The sides of the bag are the bread and the welt is the meat. With the right sides together (or what ever side you want to see when you turn the bag) put the 3/8" "meat" between the two "bread" peices and line up the edges. Now punch your holes and saddle stitch like before.

When you turn the bag right side out, your stitches will be hidden by the "meat"; the welt. This protects the stitching from abrasions.

Does that make sense?

here's a close up of my stitching, i used a saddle stitch but instead of going hole to hole i looped it around the outside to give it a neat look to it :v ...............bob

I now under stand the welt. Thanks guys. I will try onther one tommorow with a welt.

Huntnut,
I guess you fellas know about this, but maybe new BP shooters don't. A real easy ball pouch to make.
Find an old softball or hardball depending on your ball size needed. Cut the seam, makes two leather pieces. Cut them in half at the skiny width. Re-stich each leather piece and you gotcha two fine ball pouches. Stain them or paint some Indian design and there you go!
