Hey there
A lot of people on here get theirs from www.powderhornsandmore.com and have plenty of good things to say.
I have had good luck getting them off of ebay from 'Restorehistory'. A quick look on ebay shows that they haven't done any business recently, but it still may be worth sending an e-mail.

Other suggestions are local cattle farmers/slaughterhouses and maybe even craigslist.
Some of those old souvenier Mexican mounted horns have been cheap to buy, but have yielded very nice horns for me.

Hope this helps

Buy horns where you can see the horn your buying and get the measurements first hand! John and Linda at Powderhornsandmore.com is the best bet!

PS.....And their Featured Artist right now is a handsome devil! :rotf:

A day horn or weekend horn can be as short as 10-12" on the curve and 2 and a half inches wide at the butt. Even smaller if you have a small caliber gun. A flat horn that can fit in a pocket can work.

...and yet another vote for Powder Horns and More. My experiences with this business have been pleasant and satisfactory.

For my money if all you are doing is hunting for the day a 6-8in horn will be more than enough unless you are shootin a howizter :surrender: :surrender: :rotf:

Well I want a white one to make a map horn out of. I have old maps of my grandfathers farm that has been in the family for over 100 years. Thought it would be neat to put it on a horn and mark the areas where we have killed deer over the years. Then give it to him as a Christmas gift.

If you are wantin a map horn I would recommend a 12 -15in horn. its tough to do a good map on a small horn.

You can do a map on a small flat horn, or on a larger horn, say 12-15 inches, but somehow they don't look right on a smaller round horn. You flatten the horn yourself.

Talk to the suppliers on the phone and tell them the nature of your project. They have lots of experience in supplying horns and will do a much better job of sending you a horn that will work for you. Otherwise, a "cold" order by email simply is not going to give them the information they may need to do their best for you.
