Horrible accuracy after 3 shots

Yo my friend stop using 3 F in a .58 cal ! Try the 2 f n start at 50 gr. What lube ? What caps ?

3f is what I had with me I'll definitely try 2f and wiping after each shot.

It appears to be a custom stock fitted with parts from a factory rifle, the ASM could stand for that manufacturer. The suggested 2fg powder is good and try a water based lube. Straight water dampened or spit will soften the fouling and allow more shots and I get fine accuracy with this. Here’s some examples.

I'm not that interested in it if it can shoot prb to be honest. I have very little sentimental attachment to this rifle. I have other guns of his I have memories of actually shooting with him. This thread was started because I couldn't believe after 3 shots I couldn't hit anywhere on paper. I'm going out again on Saturday to see what it can do after running a patch between shots. If that doesn't produce improvement I'll likely sell it.

3f is fine for a 58 contrary to what some may say. The issue is the quality of the powder, lube and how you load. Generally 3f in a 58 will let you use less powder for a given velocity with less fouling. If you're shooting round ball only, you might want to look at an over powder wad and wiping between shots. The only guns I've been able to consistently get away with no wiping are my Civil War muskets I shoot in competition. They're tuned and had extensive load development.

Try seating the PRB with a moisten patch, spit, moose milk, whatever. This will remove a slight amount of fouling and leave your barrel in a uniform condition for every shot.

Well we went out again today. I took the advice mentioned and ran a patch after every 2 shots. It makes all the difference after we were able to get a good group we adjusted the sights and at 50 yards it's a tack driver. My son put about 50 shots down range and had a great time.
