To take a set of percussion double barrels, convert them to flint and make a flint side by side.

So far, I've got the barrels, the hooked breech, triggers. Wood I have a plenty, but I can imagine using a pair of manton locks.

The barrels have been proofed, and at the moment there are nipples in them (new in fact).

Would I insert a plug a weld it shut? Then install a touch hole or a liner?

Anybody ever try this?

I would put a noch breech or patent breech system rather than welding on them.

There is a book avail. called:

Recreating the Double Barrel Muzzleloading Shotgun

& it shows you how to take a set of modern doublebarrels & cut them off & how to make the patent breeches & basically everything you need to know to make the shotgun, if you have the skills & machinery.

.

Birddog6 is right. Get the book. I had a 16ga. SxS flinter made using Ithaca Flues Damascus barrels using the Nock type breeching method.

i would buy a shotgun with 32 inch barrels that "shoot on" that is each barrel impacts the same point on the pattern board.. and then build it with those.. fluid steel would be better as opposed to damascus,in my opinion for heavy loads.. damascus looks better, but you will need to determine if there is any damage at all.. 16 guage upland bird flintlock in the 6 1/2 pound range will bring the most on the auction block if it is done right with nice wood.. probably take about 2-4 builds before you get good at it.. .. dave..
