As was indicated by most posts here , the only way you"ll know for certain is to do your own expermenting . I usually use 3f in all my guns , both caplock and flint and also use 3f for the prime . So far , none of my guns seem to do a great deal better with 2f ? I only have one smoothbore , it has a short barrel and does well with the 3f as well. There is little doubt that a smoothbore with a long barrel might do better with a 2f main charge ? :idunno: :hmm:

3f will likely work fine in that new gun, you might have someone prime it with 3f then 4f without you knowing which and see how things work you may become a one horn guy.

I have always shot FF in the main charge, with FFFF in the priming pan. In reading around, I have found that many people use FFF in both. Is there any noticeable difference in performance/accuracy? Are they better for different things?

Thanks.

Depends on the gun.
FFF is slower in the pan than FFFF or Swiss Null B.
I shoot a lot of FFF in rifles under 58.
