Can' t help myself, do you load from your powder horn directly?
I don't see a powder measure on your list of only need.
If shooting a cap lock do you put the caps in your bag then look for them and use your fingers to set the cap? If shooting a flint, how do do you knap a flint, how do you change a flint if needed?

A measure and turn-screw are not unnecessary gadgets like speed-loaders, priming horn, short-starter or ball block. I knap the flint with the back of my knife...

I'll put it another way. I've never seen a serious competitor use the bare minimum to get by with nor a hunter or rein-actor that did not carry at least some of the items you declare not necessary, back in camp.
If one shells out some serious coin to do some of these events it would not make sense to not cover some contingencies for the sake of simplicity.
I suspect you do the same if totally honest.

I carry none of the items mentioned nor are they in camp. My short-starter is in the garage, the loading blocks & priming horn are on the bookshelf and I have no idea where my speed-loaders might be. I prime and load from my horn, use ball and patch from my bag and employ the rammer to start and seat the ball.

All that is in my bag is......
ball bag,
ball starter,
shooting patches,
tin of patch/all purpose lube,
nipple wrench,
caps,
Cleaning patches,
Bottle of M.A.W. cleaning solution,
A powder flask if I don't carry a horn..
That's it everything to shoot and clean...The jag stays on the ramrod and powder measure is attached to the bag.

I know it's a lot of stuff but it keeps me going all fall....I'll often leave the house with just a small flask in my pocket, balls, patches, and caps.....That's it...

Clyde,
Started a thread on shooting bag contents. Might be a good place for the information you posted.

I dont have a horn but have heard it can be dangerous to load direct? How do you assure no embers? I guess swabbing each shot would do it?

It means the prime and main charge come from the horn (i.e. No priming horn) - not that the main charge is poured down the barrel from the horn.

Correct. I don't think anyone on this Forum pours powder down the barrel directly from the horn.

Too much inconsistency in the charge if a measure is not used.

I have a question what do they do with all the ffffg that we dont buy.

I have to order powder this spring my be can get a good deal on all the 4f that is not sold? :hmm:

I'm surmising it could be added back to the wet mix and turned into new powder. The process (as I've seen it described) generates a mix of granule sizes that are separated by sieving (Potentially, from Coarse to FFFFFFFg).
