Hi. I have a Pedersoli Rocky Mountain Hawken 54 caliber, which has the fancy extended Hawken rear sight, thereby putting the sight closer to my eye. Unfortunately, it's too close for my eyes. I bought a replacement rear sight (3/8") that just sights above the dovetail, instead of extending several inches towards my face. Is there a particular way to remove the factory sight (right to left or vice versa), or doesn't it matter with the Pedersolis. Thanks.

I'm not sure it matters, but generally the sights are driven off from left to right (looking toward muzzle) on most guns.

I don't think it makes a bit of difference. If either the dovetail or the sight base were anything but parallel-sided, you would not be able to drift the sight to adjust for windage without the sight loosening up.

Modern made factory guns have tapered dove tails that have you removing the sight as you said. In from the right and remove tapping out to the right. I have never removed a sight from an original old gun and new contemporay builders usually seem to just make parallel but snug dove tails.
