That stinks. Car trouble has a way of changing our plans for us. Last year I was planning a trip to Washington and had a bunch of maintenance done on the car a few weeks prior to ensure no problems on the trip. I considered replacing the radiator simply because it was 13 years old, but it wasn't leaking and I had spent a bunch of money on the car already, so I decided not to. The big day arrived and just as I was getting ready to back out of the driveway and hit the road, the radiator sprung a leak. 
I'd ask if you're sure you can't fix your truck without selling your gun, but I'm sure you would if you could. Sorry to hear that.
