Don't cha know what muskles are? Uk-uk-uk-uk.

Brutus is "densley muscled" while Popeye has "specific muscle definition."

Bears have heavy muscles. Kinda like a human that works out alot. Not tough to eat necessarily, but hard muscled. Does that make sense?
Keith

What I meant was by virtue of their large nature, the muscular make-up of bears is very large and powerful. If you've ever handled one, you know that there isn't an easy way to grab and move one. Even down low on the leg, the muscle groups are so large, you just can't get a good grip. I'd rather listen to dogs bark than try to drag a bear for any distance! ::
Hope that clears it up for you.

:hmm: :hmm: I think I see where you and Keith are coming from but......... :hmm: I'm not convinced that the muscle is "heavier". However, you have my curiosity up soooooooo...
I think I will take a package of bear hamburger and deer hamburger out tonight and tomorrow when they are thawed, I will measure equal amounts (pressed into a cup and skimmed level) and weigh them. I shall report my findings. As far as dragging bears out of the bush, if they had antlers, they would be no harder than a deer. It's true that because their wrists are considerably larger than the scrawny little legs of a deer they are hard to get ahold of to drag. I think another reason they are harder to grip is because they have fur rather than hair. I think hair, like on a deer, provides more friction and is less slick than fur :imo:.On two occasions I have carried bears out across my shoulders because it was easier than dragging. They were just 2 1/2 year olds of course and I didn't have far to go. I wouldn't want to do that were there might be other hunters though:shocking:

I have $20 that says a pound of deer meat weighs EXACTLY the same as a pound of bear meat.... :haha:

Great picture, BTW. I miss bears. I need to move back to the mountains.

I think a better comparison is two roasts of the same size. Ground meat has air in it and is not as cohesive as a roast.

It might weigh the same but a bear still has more muscle. :m2c:

My thoughts exactly but the only way I could think of to measure two roasts EXACTLY would be to emerse each in a full pail of water and measure how much water was displaced. Too much hassle.

Sorry, I missunderstood. I thought the you were talking about the "density" of the muscle, not the amount of muscle. You're right, a bear is more muscular than....... ::....what exactly were we talking about?????Anyway, what you said is true and I have no idea where I was going with this

What he said! Onward & Upward! Rick

If he walks by me on Monday, I'll let you know for sure what he weighs. Minus the .54" hole, of course. ::

You didn't misunderstand. Bear have more muscle. And I believe, based on my limited experience, that is is denser on a volume for volume basis. To much trouble to measure it if you ask me though.

Bob,

Has this happened before? If so? Do you carry a gun when you go outside at night, or will you start?

I saw a mountain lion slipping across the highway not a quarter mile from where I live. He was crossing coming out of town. From that day on I never go from my house to my workshop at night without the trusty .44 mag.

my .22 mag goes outside with me ever since a BIG yote came racing down the hill behind my house when i had the dogs out last year in the winter....my one dog ran up and stopped it in it's tracks while i was pulling the one on the lease back in to get my gun and yelling at the one standing toe to toe with the yote trying to get her back down by me....the yote was as big as a big shepard....my dog weighs 55 lbs and this thing looked bigger then her.................................bob

Bob, Mrs. Musketman has a serious question for you...

How do you keep your kids safe when they're playing outside? The bear came right up on your deck...

when we are outside they don't show up....when we're inside and they show up they run when we look out the door or open it....

unless they are small....
