G'day,

I thought I had seen most ways of hunting over the years but this one takes the cake. :RO: The url I have included will take you to a site with details on how to shoot Wisconsin Whitetail deer with a Mountain Howitzer. :what:

http://www.buckstix.com/howitzer.htm

Talk about a large calibre black powder gun. :redthumb:

Cheers from down under
Aussie Bob

:haha:

Certainly looks effective for large crowds of deer.

Stalking with the Mountain Howitzer might be really tough to do!

I guess the trick is to wait until they bunch up and then take out the whole herd. ::

149 sixty-nine cal. balls in a canister charge and only six hits. Poor misfortunate deer managed to sidestep 143, but it were those last six that did him in. Wonder what the shot spread was.

Now that has got to be one of the best hunting stories I've ever read. Blasting buck with a howitzer.

Am I the only one that has a problem with this? What if those balls hit that animal in the gut or took its legs off, I don't think it would be so funny then.

that scenario isnt scary, i find lots of deer riddled with buckshot. but the scary thing is that a site like this is being lauded for what it pusblishes. Its not only illegal to hunt with a howitzer, its a horrid crime to make the site because any anti hunter or PETA nutcase would have a field day with it

I was concerned about this so I made an inquiry. It is a hoax. The deer was not shot with a cannon. Wisconsin DNR has gotten complaints about this site, and confirmed that it was not for real.

Hoax or not, the seeds were sown...

Someone out there in the world, who has a cannon and just may try something like this...

My biggest worry would be if the "hunter" touched it off at a deer with people down range too...

A shot pattern (be it #6 shot or .69 caliber musket balls) is a undiscriminating killer...

Even if it's not true and nobody tries it for real. This is an absolutely asinine thing to post on the web unless you are trying to create a hell of a lot more anti-hunters.

We all know that the anti-hunters base their arguments on emotional :bull: and not fact anyway. This is exactly the kind of thing that they will use for there lies and propaganda. With the anti-hunting sentiment that already exists the last thing we need is moron hunters giving them more manure to use against us.

I have dealt with the public for over 40 years, and believe me, I will never underestimate how stupid people can be. I figure most are idiots until they show me different. It is the occasional smart one that throws me a curve. :m2c:
