I bought a new purse. Don't judge me yet.

Now, THIS is a purse !!!

Was that silk purse made from a sow's ear?

I'd scuff that leather bag up, get rid of the brass hasp, and replace it with an antler tip, or something, add a piece of rabbit fur, and then it could pass for something.

OK, just for the fun of it. I dug out my first attempt at a shooting bag. It is a Tandy purse kit that I carved and colored. After 40+ years of being a carton queen the colors have faded. Still far from suitable to use as a shooting bag (at least where other people might see it  but might be suitable if you are in the woods alone). Will probably rub with mink oil and toss back in the box.

I think that ifnyou took the key off of it it would be alot more acceptable.

LOL

Seriously though, It's a bag! It's not what you see everywhere. Sew what (I slay myself)!? It's fine, and quite practical.

My first attempt was "acceptable" in that it does work in the squirrel woods. But it isn't remotely pretty. I'm not hard to please so if something works, then I'm satisfied.

1st attempt. The horn is connected to the strap and a short starter sits in it's own strap holster.

I agree with Alden! If'n its a bag and made of leather and laced up like that then why all the negativity about what it's intended use is? It could carry my patch and ball or my wife's lipstick. No big wup!! Looks fine to me but what do I know....... Greg :)

I made a bag from a pattern I saw on this forum, I was pretty proud of it. First thing my wife said was "Nice purse". If his rifle is loaded, I don't care what it looks like.

That's funny. Better yet, just drop a few lead balls in it when she's not looking!

a fasionista with whom I work has informed me that, in no uncertain terms, the pink thing in your posting is a "clutch," and NOT a "purse."

I have learned never to question this fellow in such matters.

as an aside, remember the Bauhaus mantra: form follows function

Here's one of mine.
Double back for two inside pockets, full size.
It is my flinter bag, now and has a brass button for closure. Included is a bottomless pocket on the outside for a short starter.

Sorry Ma'am but that looks like a purse. If anyone makes fun of you at the range, slap them with it!! :rotf:

Now be careful, what you say about my purse.

Notice, it isn't just any old purse.

It has nice daisy and acanthus leaves carved on it just like a nice longrifle.

Any shooting bag, aka a purse, is just fine at the range or in the woods, if, that is, one has a cute pair of matching pumps.

I'm not sure what is more fruity, that purse or the fact that you know what kind of flower & leaves it has on it!! Must be from the summer collection? ;-)

Truly!! Isn't it all about properly accessorizing one's outfit? :rotf:

Laugh if you will. This really is a converted purse. Made by Arthur Hutchison at the age of 90. He grew up in the mountains of north Ga. Nothing was wasted. It makes a great bag and even has a snap closure. Some of his even have a zipper pocket inside. Whatever he could buy at the flea market was used. I keep it and use it in his memory.

I've needed another shooters bag for some time now and asked my wife to keep her eyes open for a purse that could be converted. I was on the water this weekend when she text me a photo asking me if this is what I was looking for. Of course I said "buy it." At $25 I can't go too far wrong since its brand new with thick leather. I need to replace the shiny latch thing with a deer horn button or similar if I can. The strap also needs to be lengthened. Other than that I think it will work fine.
If memory serves, someone else on here converted an old purse to a shooters bag but that's been years ago and I can't find the post.

Its been a while since I've posted photos so I hope this works the first time.
