Went out to shoot Sunday with the Illini Muzzleloaders and joined the dryballers club too. :haha:

I was thinking about which targets I had shot and which ones were left to shoot at while I wiped my bore. Then I counted the balls I had separated out to finish the shoot, picked one up, grabbed a patch, started it in the muzzle, and... :shocked2:

Hi Jethro!

Congrats! Not for the dryballing :shake: , but for joining the club!

ML shooting is a thing where you have to be very concentrated, not only when aiming and firing, but also when loading.

Regards

Kirrmeister

I'm still trying to find someone to sponsor me in!

They said to be one, ask one. That hasnt worked yet.
Although several have made strong attempts to get me to join, they have not yet cut the mustard.

Is it the odor of my after shave?
The material I use for patch material?

Some have come close.
Just not my time yet I guess.

So Jethro, whats the annual dues to be a full pledged, upstanding member???
did you have to go thru a recruiting process or any hazing activities???
blood oath???
is there a membership ring like the military has?

Welcome to the Honorable Society of Dry-ballers. Three Cheers- it took you long enough, and we all missed your company. Have a soda and smile! :rotf:

Welcome new member!

Imagine how easy it could happen if you were in combat and the enemy was charging....I imagine ball pullers were top of the list of items needed.

Although at least in the military, using the paper cartridges like they did...a fairly large object until the paper is torn and the powder poured out...the "cartridge" may have actually prevented dry balling (in the military)

karwelis, You hit the nail right smack on the head! One of the other guys had just done it a few minutes earlier and I chuckled... guaranteed invitation. :haha:
The initiation fee is cheap. Only costs one lead ball. Your choice of caliber. And it's a life membership. Of course future donations are cheerfully accepted.

I was happier to join the Illini Muzzleloaders than the dryballers society.

There are evil folk who will "chat" with you during your loading sequence. This will result in adding clusters to your dryballer medal. I can testify from personal experience, no room for any more clusters here, all full up. Good smoke, Ron in FL

Ummm.... :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: Welcome!
Now you know what that little screw lookin thingy is for! :v

I just joined a club in Indiana and I know what you mean. All sorts of things can go wrong in a timed shoot. I didn't dry ball, but I forgot to put a ball and patch down and just got a "poof" when aiming at my target. Also, unless you're using a starter block, you can forget how many rounds you've sent in to the target. I spit patch so I don't have to worry about hard loading during a relay. I'll put how ever many patches in my mouth the realy requires shot so I don't loose count since I load from the bag.
