I think I'll build a gun that's pretty much like an English fowling piece.
Instead of the round smooth bored barrel, I'm going to use a spiral grooved German square sided barrel, 44 inches long, with a bore of 36 balls to the pound.
I wonder if it will work.🤔

It's not a "Newcomer" copy. It may show a lot more English.
I've really been studying Dave Person's English Fowler Tutorial on the ALR.
The first thing is laying it out again with Dave's info and double checking the confines of this stock.

I have most my parts. The Chambers English Lock will be here next week with the ramrod drill. I ought to be really set up by then. The furniture is from Dunlap Wood's 10 gauge fowler.
I think this one is going to be really fun.

I made a template from Mr Persons measurements.
I tried to tweak it a little but it just was not working out. In the end I used the measurements he provided and it’s right.
Whew!! It’s going to be dainty.

Stock blank is cut well outside the yellow line. I’ll rasp down to shape when the build gets there.

Here’s the lock and side plate.

It’s going to be very close with that side plate.
Shortened, would give me lots more wiggle room for placing the lock nails.

If I can pull it off, this will make a nice gun.
