I've got a Lyman Trade Rifle in 54 cal and the recoil is minimal. For some reason the Renegade felt recoil is substantial in comparison. Another good reason to go with a 225 grain patched round ball verses a big ole' heavy conical or maxi. I would think developing a load and sighting in would be quite merciless using those heavy projectiles.

I shoot my 54 cal round ball thrower regularly and often. It is always FUN to shoot and I never feel beat up by it. And yes it is deadly accurate. 1 in 48 twist like yours is too.

Don't be afraid to try 2f, I have a Renegade Hunter and it likes KIK 2f better than anything else I have tried witch includes Goex 2f,3f and KIK 3f. Don't ask me why but it sure does.

Maybe I just need different patches or lubes with those powders but right now it wants 2f KIK.

T/C Renegade weight = 8 lbs
Lyman Great Plains Rifle = 10.8 lbs

Mine is a Lyman TRADE not a Lyman Great Plains. My Trade is much lighter than 10.8 pounds. In fact it might way LESS than the renegade. DIXIE GUN WORKS lists my gun at approx 8.0 pounds.
