Smoothbores fit for shooting mallards and quail!

If they'd been so great....rifling would never have come along! :idunno: :shake:
Rifling is brilliant, until there is only a mallard or quail about to eat!

A quails head is pretty small to hit with a rifle unless you are really close. Mallards on the water are easily taken by shooting the water beneath them. The splash will kill them without any damage to the meat.

Rifles were invented about 1500, very popular in the Germanys , and later in America. Didn’t catch on to much in the rest of the world until breechloaders became popular. In The UK France or Spain they were rare. They were to be found in the Muslim world, especially Afghanistan.a few Canadians carried them but all and all smoothies ruled.

Stan...,

for the plinking I do, I love shooting the front stuffers but this is the second time I've had an issue like this.

..., the "way to go" is to find a rifle, or a gun, that you have fun shooting. Each style is going to have advantages, and each is going to have quirks.

THEN..., practice with it and get good at shooting it. Smooth bores in the right hands, are very versitile, and have no problems holding their own when it comes to putting stuff in the pot, and for some shooting are easier than rifles. Rifles in the right hands can make some very respectable shots when it comes to accuracy up close and at distance.

Some of the most fun is dicovering a quirk, and learning how to cope with it. There is special satisfaction when that happens (imho).

Finally, having the coolest, easiest gun in the world to shoot..., doesn't mean much if it sits on the rack collecting dust. Can't make any memories if ya don't get out there and use it.
