Actually, not too unpleasant at all. I'm not affected by those kind of smells. On the other hand, the smell of a lilac bush in full flower makes me feel like vomiting.

Once scraped and rinsed there was hardly any odor at all. I think it will make a fine Menudo.

The most annoying part was discovering I had not emptied all of the chambers in the field as thoroughly as I had thought. Kept clogging the strainer basket of the kitchen sink...
 
Sorry, I cant make it over for supper tonight.....Ah, um something came up.....I have to work late, My Aunt is sick, My car has a flat tire, I had a colonoscopy today and haven't bounced back yet.....Ya that's it...:grin:
 
I tried menudo at a local mexican restaurant about a year ago. It was edible, but I didn't need seconds and probably won't go out of my way to eat it again.

But, I'm a bit of a sucker for trying different foods. I don't like butterscotch though.
 
I grew up on a farm and we didn't waste a whole lot when it came to butchering. Chicken feet was interesting the first time I ate them. My wife's family enjoyed them, but my folks never utilized that part of the chicken. The feet were left to the dogs and cats when I was a kid at home. After we were married and started raising our own chickens, we would cook them from time to time. Our girls liked them.
 
Considering the starting material, the potential for AWFUL is fairly high if not made properly. As already mentioned, once scraped and rinsed, only a very faint hint of its initial aroma remained. I look forwards to making Menudo for the first time, though of all the people I know, I'm likely the only person that would like it. This is a very Meat & Potatoes state, and anything even remotely foreign is viewed with great suspicion....
 
One would have to grow up un the late 70's to early 80's to be a Menudo fan .......And it still wouldn't be my thing.... :haha:

And I was beyond growing up in the 70's and 80's, although my wife tells me I still haven't grown up as I get close to three score and ten.

Fwiw, I'm so "stuck in the past" that I had to "google" Menudo to see that Clyde was talking about.
(Ask me about the music of the 1920-60 & I'll generally know about that. = About as "modern" as I get in music is Patsy Cline & Bob Wills.)

Meanwhile, anybody have good indian corn recipes?

If I grind locally accessed "indian corn" from a local farmers market or grower, would have a different flavor from whote is purchased from yellow corn at a grocery store? I'm talking about the colored corn that is sold for fall decorating etc. Actual heritage corn is harder to come by.
 
Be carefull with the fall decorative corn ..some like to spray it with clear coat to make it shine...(not good eats)..make sure you know where it comes from
