I am just finishing inleting my first barrel using inlet black. The stuff works dandy but what a mess! I look like I spent the day under my first car. Are there alternatives to inlet black?

use cheap red lipstick, or lampsoot.
I just don't know how to make lampsoot
cheap lipstick is 50 cents a stick and will last for a few guns.
Doesn't stain the wood, easy to apply, cheap, and cleans up easy.. both wood and hands.
Much better then the "inletting black"

I use inletting black or lipstick. Actually, the lipstick was especially good in that it got rid of some really bad colors that my daughter had around while helping me inlet my parts. Win Win -- I love it! :)

I use a black magic marker. The Perm. kind. Easy to apply and not near as messy.
PD

I use candlesmoke. Mix with mink oil when nesecary.Clean up is easy with alcohol. It works for me and it's PC.
