Dear Mr. Rudy Thompson,
Well the "cartridge" is a paper tube containing powder and projectile not unlike the "cartridge" used with a civil war rifled musket.
Since it is a percussion firearm if not here where would you suggest it be mentioned?
This part of the forum is for percussion rifles not just muzzle loading percussion rifles and, while the bullet goes in the back it comes out of the barrel because of a percussion. cap.
If there objections to my posts I will stop...perhaps
Respectfully

Rudy, respectfully, what you are being told is the truth. They are allowed here and to put them in the non-muzzleloaders forum would exclude discussion of them for a majority of the posters here. You may have missed previous discussions but they have been allowed here for a number of years. The decision was made by the moderators to include them and as I remember Zonie was the one to make the announcement. Maynard, Sharps, Burnside, Smith, Gallager, Hall, Star, Tarpley, Jenks, Joslyn (percussion only), Merrill, Gwyn & Campbell, and I've probably missed others. They are all allowed here even though they are breech loaders as they are fired with a percussion cap on a nipple.

Mr Thompson,I do not have control over my house cat not to mention a group of wild eyed enthusiasms who shoot and love a technology long past. The moderator of this forum must be a hard man in the likes of Capt.Leander McNelly Texas Ranger .
I will agree to and abide by the moderators decision. I can only say in my defense that it is a percussion gun, that loads in a different manner. but if the moderator says the Sharps is a no-no I will go quietly into the night and never be heard from again here.
Now I do have a percussion revolver or two and that also DO NOT load from the muzzle. . So out with them I say out with them on the premise that sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.. No Sharps no revolvers OK?
They are not a muzzle loader by decree of the Great State of Texas P&W. And if you want to argue with them by all means have at it. You will lose.
That ruling means you cannot carry a percussion hand gun as a side arm or hunt with one during the primitive hunting season.
Go figure that one.
still annoyed
Bunk.

Be it know by all
That was fun!!.
Rudy thank you fror keeping me busy I meant no disrespect and ihopefully I did not annoy you much that was not my meaning.
Gunz are fun and I do have a rag nose rifle or two and do burn up some of Mr. Du Pont's finest on occasion.
If you ever come to Texas "me casa es su casa" as is my range.

doesn't a SMITH LOAD FROM THE REAR? don't get upset over it. life is rely too short. just shoot them and have fun.

The screw barrel pistols also load from the rear and we can talk about them too. The screw barrel pistols can be fired by flint lock or percussion lock depending on the time frame in which they were built.

You are correct.

As one of the moderators on the forum, I will say, the rules were changed over a year ago to allow breech loading guns to be discussed if they do not use self contained cartridges. That is, the primer or percussion cap must be a seperate part that is loaded onto a nipple to fire the gun.

Self contained cartridges which have the primer built into them are not permitted in the general areas of the forum. They can be discussed in the Premium Member area of the forum.

Thanks to all for setting me on the path to a better knowledge of the forum as I will most likely be corrected again before I hang up my "Muzzle Loader" for good.
Rudy
come on Rudy it was all in fun. And gave me something to do by being a smart a$$.
Retired old guys ( I qualify) have time when not shooting a gun to shoot the *** you know what.
For curisoty what is your area of ignition cap lock, rock lock, tube lock what?
Inquiring minds want to know.

I will shoot just about anything I can pour black powder into.
I have a variety of them from flint to percussion, my favorites are the rifled muskets of the late war
for Southern independence.
As of late single shot pistols. I like the time between shots as it gives you time to think about " how the H-- did I miss that shot"

Thank you for the reply. And as I have the moderators attention, if this needs to be moved then I do understand
I have a couple of Questions, It is not about firearms but it does pertain to the forum.
How do I delete a message when I have let my mouth overload my butt?
How do I reply without including the original message?

I thought that rear loaders were not allowed . the sharps rifle is really a cartridge gun paper or metal.
Asking for a friend
Not quite. Also you can do what I do and put the bullet into the chamber and point the muzzle down and pour in some powder. I have been using 45 or 50 grains of ff in my 50 cal and 35 or 40 grains in my 45 cal. Just love shooting them that way! They are Shiloh Sharps ( Farmingdales ).

exactly so. To make things less trouble the powder and bullet is in a paper cylinder stuffed into the gun.
If you want to call that a cartridge go for it.
today i had good luck with a regular .round ball and 30 grains volume of FFg powder in my Pedersoli Sharps..
Seems to be a good plinking load for 50 yards and is easy on the lead supply..
