Is this a good deal?

I found a CVA hawken kit on another forum a guy is selling for $150. It appears the only thing needed to complete the gun is staining the wood. I'm waiting to hear back from the seller on exactly what needs to be done. It comes with a .50 and .54 barrel, it's a percussion gun. I have pictures but don't know how to load them. Assuming not much has to be done, is that a good deal?

Seems like an o.k. deal provided no parts have had some bad "gunsmithing" or the bores are rusty. Also, the seller should have some reasonable history on the forum and positive feedback if they have that feature.

I had one just like it,good price if it is in good shape,not rusted,abused,,, mine was very accurate.

One of my friends bought one of those two barrel kits. Worked great and very accurate. He sold the kit to another friend when the first owner moved to Iowa, and thus left my area which is only shotgun and muzzleloader for deer. The fellow he sold the rifle to then went and had the .50 barrel reamed out to .54 smooth, and he uses that as a smooth rifle shooting shot, on squirrels and rabbits.

OK he said it needs sanded and stained, the ramrod, and the two brass pieces that go where the wedge pins fit. Both barrels need blued or browned. I asked if he has the needed items haven't heard back, both barrels have never been shot

If you want the fun and satisfaction of putting a kit together then that seems like a fine deal. Be aware tho that if you don't care to do a project gun then used CVA Hawkens in good shape can be had for that kind of money or even cheaper. Greg

Great deal, sounds like a kit in the raw so there will be some finishing. Some people were under the impression you could just assemble and stain these things (and you probably could). But if you want a nice rifle spend the time to finish it up nice.

Well my cheap self blew it. I offered the guy $100 and he countered with no thanks I got a full cash offer! Oh well I didn't want it anyways lol
