I am NO expert, that said I'm more than familiar enough with real Colts, Italian imports, and the Ruger. I STRONGLY suspect that the revolver in the OP's post is an Italian that has been defarbed and aged to create a fake.
Yup! Stands out like a sore thumb. That contour on the barrel says NO to me.
Exactly! To my eye it looks like a Pietta hammer spur.Nope...
Not only the line on the barrel, but the shape of the hammer looks nothing like an original Colt.
Awesome example of what to look for.
Wow, must have been shot on early 16mm filmIt's as real as my matched pair of duelling pistols, once the property of none other than Alexander the Great. I even have an older video of him shooting them at the Battle of Hastings.
Check the measurements of the pins in the frame?
Yeah but 455 for THAT? that’s about twice what it should bring…First red flag is the price. Beyond that it isn't worth looking into. If it seems too good to be true....
True dat. If, however, it were a real Colt, it would be, well, too good to be true.Yeah but 455 for THAT? that’s about twice what it should bring…
The kind of stuff you dream about. Like finding a carefully preserved, fully engraved, original factory 4.5” barrel and half fluted cylinder 1860 Army tucked away in a false ceiling of the house you just bought to remodel. With a letter signed by Sam’l Colt. And 5 boxes of original cartridges. With all the accessories. In a presentation case.True dat. Someone did fairly recently find an original Walker wrapped in a rag in their attic. I can't remember if it was buried in family stuff they threw up there or it came with the house. Apparently it was taken by a Mexican soldier and ended up somehow in an attic 180 years laterThe kind of stuff you dream about. It could happen! Probably not to me but…
