Really nice repo of North and Cheney model 1799. Italian made. I’ve never seen another of these on the repo market and an original would cost serious money if you could even find one. This would also work for a French M1777 pistol impression.

Very hard to find and quality Italian made.

$450 shipped

I've worked on a couple of these, palmetto if memory serves. I found them to be well made but unreliable. How reliable is this one and how do you determine "reliable"?

Mine looks identical. It is serial 32xx. It is marked "San Marco Gardone V.T. Bresica" in light shallow block letters along the very top of the barrel. There were other Italian makers, but they usually say Charleville in big bold script on the lockplate (like the 1777 Charleville did also). The North & Chaney was very similar, almost identical, but of course did not have the engraved Charleville on the plate.

There are few different sites that state the North & Chaney 1799 was most likely the model of pistol of which Merriwether Lewis took two "horse pistols" from the U.S. armory for to be on his famous expedition in 1804. The 1799 N&C was the first U.S. pistol officially adopted by its military and it was .69 caliber.

This is as close to a very likely Corps of Discovery reproduction pistol as we can get, unless bespoke handmade .

Actually they are a copy of the 1777 French pistol that will work as a N&C. I'm surprised yours isn't marked. Yes they were made by Palmetto.
There was also a bagged kit w/no wood sold by DGW marked N&C and made in Belgium in the 1980's it was only offered through their sale flier. I bought one for $35

Mine is stamped Armi San Marco on top. It's also .69 caliber. Very reliable, it's a fun shooter.
