I had to tell somebody!
I just was perusing the board and heard the ole Fedex truck turning around.
My Traditions 50cal. Kentucky Rifle made it in.
ITS a percusion kit.
I have been waiting a while now on my other kits parts from Trail of the Wolf a flinter.
I have no stock for that one yet its back ordered so I cant do much but set on my hands.
Now I have something to start in on and play with yahoo!
I feel like a kid at christmas. :p

Got my Tradions KY last week and have been working on fiting the parts. Mine fits up pretty good except for the two stock pieces and the brass spacer. With the spacer it pushes the front piece out past the screw holes for the nose cap.

Let's stay in touch since we are both working on the same kit. I am going to try and finish mine like a Henry Leman style.

Hey Wolf,
Email me at [email protected]
I just checked my nose cap holes and mine are farther off than yours it sounds. You saved me from gluing that together and finding that problem.
Even with the brass spacer out my back hole is off 1/8"
its an easy fix looks like I can just drill a hole next to the other one and not use the spacer.
The two wood peices dont line up worth a crap.
My trigger guard is about a 1/4" out of fitting also. The lock would probably snap in but IM going to work on it.
I want all the shiney brass dulled on my and give it an indian rifle look. Few tacs here or there.

Hey, sorry about the poor fit on those kits. Couple of thoughts that might help ya'll. First off you need a spacer for propper proportion, and the pins for strength. But you don't those pins and spacers. For pins, at home depot they sell threaded rod, get some in 3/16ths, drill out your holes a little larger and deeper, and epoxy the rods in after you get your proper fit. If you want I guess you could lose the spacer, or useing a power miter saw cut a 3/16 or there abouts slice out of a similar hardwood to fit. Shape it and put it in there. If you use the epoxy and glut it up you will want to do this with the barrel in place. Put a piece of wax paper between the barrel and stock to act as a release. Hope this helps with your thought process. :m2c: Bill

You can hide that seam in the stock with a fine copper or brass wire wrap. Do another wrap at the grip rail too. Lots of them had repairs there.

Before you try to bend that TG heat it up as hot as you can with a propane torch and quench it in water. Brass works opposite from iron and goes soft when quenched.

This will let you bend it without breaking the casting, and it will break.

How does the hammer line up on the nipple? Cheap kits often miss the mark there too.

I have been fitting the stock pieces together. IT looks like it will work less the spacer. I drilled a couple of small dimples not holes just enough to let some glue get in type pits around each flat edge where the stocks butt together.
IM thinking after its all fitted and sanded I might run a thin guage brass band around the joint as a decoration and cover the line. The two wood grains dont match up at the line.
I went through my kit and found I have no underlugs in the kit.
I have yet to check the hammer to niple fit yet IM trying tog et this cheap stock setup in line first.
I still think this is a decent shooter type kit to have some fun with.
Compared to my Parts from Track of the Wolf this rifle looks a third smaller.
Butt plate is smaller, triggr guard is smaller.
Looks like a scaled down kentucky rifle kit.
IM not complaining IM going to work it like a rented mule. :redthumb:

I have a rifle with a two piece stock also - another project. I don't like the brass joint on mine either, I am going to hide mine with a faux repair. I plan on using wet rawhide wrapped around it and sewn on with sinew(fake sinew of course!). Kurt
