Sounds like sloppy barrel inletting. It is a modern mass market gun with no pretext of any historically correct styling or traditional construction techniques. It's not like the "value" will be hurt. IF the job is done correctly it will be invisible. If it were original or a traditionally made rifle with some semblance of history or historical interest I would not recommend it. It is no different than glass bedding a ML that sports a plastic stock. I had the same issue in 1975 with my TC hawken and a Lyman 57 rear sight. Glass bedding shrunk the groups dramatically. My barrel was moving side to side due to the sloppy factory inletting. Each time I loaded and fired the barrel was settling in a different place in the stock.
