Hi,

Got a question for the camp, having built a couple of pistols, one rifle and reworking a rifle and a shotgun (all ML). I want to build a Kentucky style rifle. My question is which does the list prefer or recommend, Traditions KY or Pedrasoli? I would love to have one from TOTW, Chambers or Pecatonica, but funds are limited.

Thanks,
Waya :what:

Mowolf,
It time for a little tough love.... Please don't settle. Life is to short to buy cheap because you will regret it later. No one here is made out of money (maybe Claude) but if you have a little time you could save the additional money needed and get you something nice like a Chamber's kit. You'll have a better barrel (Getz or Rice) and probably better wood. Take $25 out of every paycheck and put it in a coffee can and before you know it, you'll have the additional money need.
It sounds like you know a little about building rifles so these kits should be that much trouble. In the end you'll have a better rifle and something to be proud of in the end.

You get what you pay for and you pay for what you get.

Save your money and get what you really want.

I got a kit from TOTW and I have heard nothing but good regarding Chambers.

Why did I pick one vendor over the other? Well, at TOTW's website they really made it easy for be to make a choice. I could save about 20% by what I have learned about the ML market and places to buy and what to buy today though. In addition I would like to hand pick my stock and not just rely on the warehouse picker to pick a nice grain. Yes my stock is M4 and really nice, but it would of been nice to pick myself.

I have heard pretty good things about Early Rustic Arms kits, they are a plain old "user" type gun and the kits are under 500 bucks.

MOWolf do yourself a favor and get a good from TOW,or TVM. My wife baught me a traditions deerhunter for X-mas last year{03}. 60days later I found a Investarms hawkin and then while shooting offhand shoots during summer of 04(this year) I was offered a Lancaster. Well you can guess where its at now.LOL The others are now used as backups only. Traditions is known for weak locks. CVA a little better but still weak for tournament shooting. For hunting they're in the ok catagory. Lyman/Investarms and Pedorsoli are pretty good for production guns. But the closest to a KY gun your going to get is a Lyman GPR or Pedorsoli KY(Cabelas) some have had trouble with them also. For building Id get the good one and take your time building it and you'll not only have a great shooter but a true family eheirloom to give to your kids/grand kids and only cry once. :m2c:

BambiSlayer, I see you are located in Mid MO, where exactly do you hale from?

Remember tooo-
From "the Track" you don't need to buy the whole kit at once.
Buying as you build is like halfway between "layaway" and "credit card". :sorry:
No matter how bad you mess something up,,,,, later on you can replace the "not up to par" part,,,, and no matter how bad it comes out,, you're way better off than with a Traditions. :imo:

Dang!!! Mowolf and Bambislayer I'm close to both you.I lived in Tipton, now live 25 miles from Lebanon, over by Lead Mine State Forest.

OneShot if you get to the MO Offhand shoots you might see me this summer. I'll definately should be at the JeffCity,California, and Bagnel Dam Shoots. If you all would like to know more about MO Offhand shooting here's a link. The 2005 schedule should be on line by Feb./March sometime. Missouri Off hand

NO LOL But I do know Big John. I met Big John at the ShowMe games this year. I didnt shoot off hand for score this year{04} just for fun and experience in BP competion. This year I will be shooting for score. If I can keep my head level I should be ok considering I had been shooting weekly leagues all summer with most of the top 25 MO off hand shooters.
