Thinking about getting a Traditions Kentucky pistol kit to build.....is it any good? accurate? if so what is the maximum distance?....I will shoot it for fun and possibly use for 1800-1820ish costume accessory thanks in advance for your input, gotta go to work.............Harold

That is the gun that got me hooked on black powder. I purchased mine with the mind set that I was going to take my time and build it over a long period of time. Once I got it home, it was so much fun to work on and I really wanted to see how it shot, I built it in just over a week!

It requires a little bit of wood work to get everything fitting just right and a good finished look, but it was not hard at all!

I use 30grains of pyrodex with a .490 PRB .15 prelube patch. It shoots 5" high at 25yrds and right on at 50 yrds. It initially had a very heavy trigger pull, but with the simple adjustment screw on the lock, it is now perfect.

My 13 year old son loves this gun and can hit the bull at 25 yrds 80% of the time. Well worth the $120 I paid for it!

Do you have a website link for a Traditions Kentucky pistol kit? I would like to take a look at it myself.

 I don't think you can go wrong with this kit---or the gun itself. I really enjoy shooting mine, it's not a Hammerli Free Pistol but it gives reproduceable results + the price is right. :hatsoff:

I think they discontinued the flint version but check out Dixie Gun Works-they might have one in stock. There is also Pedersoli, a bit more $ but not too bad for a kit.
