After Art generated the necessary tooling to create today's rifle kit, from whatever original stuff he had, he saw that the Hawken family took possession of it. So, no, we don't have any 175 year old tools.

I have one — well a new beetle. A 2001 that I got with 75k miles. Germans make best stuff but cannot do plastic, paint, upholstery, window regulators and door latches. I’ve had 6 German cars. What can I say?

The current S. Hawken rifle is probably closest to the well known Bridger rifle.
Art did have quite a collection of period rifles, but had to sell them in the 80's..
We are using Rice barrels, cut to Hawken specs in .54 cal only with an historically correct 1X48 twist. All barrels are tapered 1 1/8 to 1" and are offered in 34 or 36".

Hawken did not make the half stock in flint so we do not offer them The flint lock is something we manufacture along with our other products.

My question is will the Hawkins barrel have a solid under lug [should be under rib]?

CNC machined into the bottom of the barrel?

Kibler doesn't make barrels. The cost would make them expensive

Why Not?
A machined solid under rib.
No screw holes or rivets or soldier.
Quicker assembly.
Just a thought.

I don't think even Jim knows all the details, as he's working on getting a "pattern" rifle as it is. The old timers would flip if they could see CNC machinery!
