I started taking my boy when he was 4, just so he could get a taste. He knocked his first gobbler down when he was 7 and another when he was 8.

I have not taken him deer hunting for a tag of his own (he’s joined me on rifle sits and we’ve been successful) as I’m not sure he’s steady enough for a rifle shot. He seems to understand the circle of life and enjoys the meat.

Understanding your child’s maturity is probably the biggest part

I started taking my daughter out tagging along with me when she was 3. Just short hunts that were more walks in the woods than actual hunts. She got her first turkey and deer when she was 8. Now she wants to go all the time.

When we acted up in school, we got paddled and when we got home we got it worse. Kids learned that doing wrong had results that were not good. My dad did not shoot or hunt but neighbors did so I got invited when very young, borrowed shotguns and learned to hunt rabbits and tree rsts. I earned money and bought guns. Learned to reload early and soon got into front loaders.
Today you join a gang and rob stores because nothing happens to you. The idea that the yung are not developed is just garbage and parents are to blame as is todays society.
