Here is my latest hawk,forged from 1045 steel-The handle I made from curly maple.What do you think?

Beautiful work ~ What did you use for stain and finish on the handle? I've made a bunch of curly maple handles and would like a color similar to that.
 
Hi Raynor-I usually lightly torch the handle-wipe the black off-lightly sand-then I use Fiebings leather dye -british tan -wear gloves or you will wear the dye for a while :shake: -wipe off the excess-repeat till you get the shade you want-then I use tung oil and finish with a mix of linseed oil and beeswax- I actually made this handle shaped with a sidegrinder and finished with a belt sander-sounds like a lot of work but not too bad-you can find the dye on Ebay-thanks for the post-Butch :v
