If we agreed on everything, then we wouldn't need a forum to do it in, now would we? :haha: [/quote]

well said, It's the way a person debates that shows their calaber as a person.
saracasm is the lowest form of humor and dosen't need to be in any muzzleloading debate

Plink,
This thread is a whole bunch more CIVIL than the one I was referring to, it got quite heated and one of the posters in that thread has apparently left the forum or become very quiet. I agree that the information is "new" to new MLers and is part of the educational process. I have used both lead and leather for my flints and will withhold my opinion as we all need to use what works for us . . . I'm sorry if you felt I was insinuating the information being presented here (in this thread) was worthless, it is not, and that is not what I was intending to convey. My apologies.

Watch yer topknot . . . Otter

That explains it. I grew up on the Texmex border, we didn't have any mountain for things to come down from. We did have lots of horned toads though. If only I had known. :rotf:

Well dogone it are you saying you wouldn't want to have a beer with Mark Twain or Will Rogers. Western humor can be a little direct. As we say "Cowboy Up"it won't hurt for long.
Didn't mean to get you so up set. I am sure there is a pending need to dicuss this subject. I will not interfer with your important research. Carry on.

D##n Horn Toads anyway, you can't herd'em up.

Otter, no need to apologize. I wasn't targetting you or anyone in particular. I had to drop my comment in somewhere and you just happened to have the closest reply button. :rotf:

I've seen similar threads get heated before is why I replied. I just wanted folks to know that the information in these threads is invaluable, so the disagreements should be secondary to putting the info out for new folks.

What gets under the skin is someone putting forth their opinions as hard FACT, and not just opinion, this type of thread has little value to newbie or veteran, and absolutely begs for sarcasm.....

TG, I couldn't agree with you more...seems like a total fixation on these "lead flint wraps".
If somebody likes to use something, great...they say so and end it...but the annoyance we all get comes when they won't leave it at that and decide to make the issue a new life's work of trying to convert everybody...and, as if that's not bad enough, the whole issue is a classic case of a solution in search of a problem anyway...you got it right

Seems ta me there is a total fixation on lead wraps or some have a fixation on leather wraps. Some may just have a fixation on arguing and calling others they don't agree with trolls.
I can't beleive you guys are still feuding over this :bull:
It ain't the end of the freakin' world if someone uses something other than you. I have already given my opinion on this. Basically, each lock has it's own prefernce. :shake:
But, the bottom line is....who really gives a manure.

I've seen these threads for a long time. I guess I don't see the problem with them. What I see is a lot of useful information for flintlock newcomers, like myself. I'm not sure there is one correct solution. What works for one person might not work for another. But please, let's never just "put it to sleep" thinking we've solved it for ourselves, because as soon as we do, we'll have more newcomers to our sport who wants to know. Newcomers are our long term bread and butter.

I've shot BP for decades but had only owned percussion guns. I had fired friends flinters, but never owned my own till recently. I'm thankful for the "debate" and glad to toss in my piddly $0.02 worth when I can. Maybe someday my advice will be worth something, but until then, all of your advice is priceless. This applies to all the other aspects of shooting where we don't always agree.

If we agreed on everything, then we wouldn't need a forum to do it in, now would we? :haha:

I agree, i have been a moderator on a Christian board for about eight years and i`ve seen some pretty intense debates. I think everyone here has kept their cool very well and is a good reflection of the family atmosphere you have here.
Agree to disagree is the answer and that`s what it looks like everyone has done.
Man some boards are allowed to get so out of control Satan himself would blush from the profanity. I applaud the staff and the members here for maintaining a friendly well mannered board that a person can bring there kids too.
That`s my newbie thoughts, now lets all get some leather lined with lead on our flints. :)

Actually, I think lead lined with leather would be less likely to "bounce" on the frizzen!!!!

Nope!!! leather lined with lead is the answer. :rotf: :rotf:

Jeepers!!!

Absolutely not!! Everyone knows that the lead should be lined with the leather. Sheesh, some people!! :blah: :rotf:

One of these years, someone is going to make something that a person can put on their gun to make it shoot and it won't use any flint at all !!!

Then folks can quit worrying about wrapping their flints in lead or leather. :rotf: :rotf:

zonie :)

Now there's an idea. If ya come up with any ideas ya best patent them.
I doubt anything like that would ever catch hold though. It would probably be just a passing fad. :hmm:

Zonie, methinks yer a dreamer. Next thing you tell us is someday people can fly like birds, or maybe even walk on the moon. Now eat yer grits and stop yer daydreamin'. :blah:

I have read all the posts on this thread and respectfully beg to inform the collective writers on the same that the answer is really quite simple.Shakespeare addressed this and divers other like problems with one of his plays. The title says it all, read and enjoy and TG, I still have an ample supply of pearls.

:hmm: I know about chrome tanned leather. If they would just make lead tanned leather, this would all go away. :rotf:
