Could someone shooting a colerain .62 cal barrel give me an idea of what size ball I should get for it to start from along with what your accuracy and hunting loading is?

Thanks,

Clutch

Is it rifled or smoothbore? Most .62 smoothbores use a .600 round ball and rifled .62 barrels use a .610.

I'd start with a .610 RB and a .015 - .017 patch in front of 70gr 2F BP and go from there.

That sounds like a start. Who sells .610 RB's?

I looked at Lee for a mold but theirs is .600 .

Now if only ToTW would send me my barrel.

Thanks,

Clutch

My 62 with a .625 bore likes 610s with pillow ticking with 80FF.

I bought some .610's and it looks like the mould blocks had alignment problems. Bullet ran .613 to .617+ Couldn't drop it in barrel w/o a patch.

Used some snap gages and mic's, barrel is .614+. So I wonder what sized patch material would work with a .600 .

Is your barrel a Colerain?

I use .600 balls in my Colerain barrel. The patch is .015, although .018 will work. 80 grains of ffg GOEX completes the load. If I anticipate that the rifle will be loaded for a longish time, as when hunting, I put a thin wad down on the powder before I seat the ball to keep the patch lube from migrating into the charge.

Clutch,

I just slugged my new .62 Colerain barrel and, my 610 ball just fits, the bore is in the .612-613 diameter. I will try my .610s cause I have the mold.

But, If I were buying one, it would be in the .607 dia. ...............so either buy a .600 or have Jeff Tanner build you a .607. $30 shipped to your door step....his address is in the Muzzleloading links.

Seems to me that a .595 would be a better choice so you have room for a patch. Your .610's should work good with just wads and no patch.JMO

I ordered the .600 from lee get get something coming so I can shoot the rifle to figure out sights and stock fit. Thanks for the tip on Jeff Tanner incase I find myself wanting to go a bit bigger in diameter.

I enjoyed the pictures of your underhammers on your website.

Thanks,

Clutch

Why not order some .595" ball from TOTW and try them? I think you will find they fit your smaller diameter barrel better, and you will be up and shooting in days, rather than weeks.
