Loading block question

So I’ve never used a loading block before as I’ve always just loaded out of my bag. I recently picked one up for my 50 cal GPR…. Anyway, do you folks use greased patches w/ the loading block? Is it necessary to put a little more on the patching it will be sitting in the block awaiting use? or just wipe patch as usual in the mink oil as usual and load into the block. I’m using TOW mink oil if it matters.

I lube the patch and if needed will moisten the patch a bit more just before loading. My spit will combine with most anything!

Under normal conditions I don't use blocks either. However, if I'm shooting a timed competition I will.

I load the block with round ball and dry patch material then fill the covered ball patched recess with lube and wipe off flat. I've never had a problem in over 30 years of doing it this way. That includes hunting and competition.

I don’t use a block anymore. It may be ahistorical, or not. Mostly shoot smoothies and just not needed.
When I did use a block I lubed the patch before putting it in the block.
I always use a grease instead of an oil as a lube

I use a loading block for both rifle and smoothbore when using a single round ball. I make my own loading blocks. For hunting I like only two or three balls in a block. Light weight and convenient if I have to make a quick second shot. When I used to shoot in competition I had loading blocks with more capacity.
I lube the patch before I seat it with a ball in the block. If it has been in the block, drying, for several days, I will then fill the covered patched ball recess with more lube, as RedJohn said above.

I lubed. Only used the block for hunting. I sold blocks, buyers wanted large 8 and 10 holers. I sold them what they wanted. For my personal use, mine were 2 and 3 holers. Don't need more than that for a day of deer hunting.

I use a three holer and lube it with mink oil. I don't bother with additional lube or mess around with it no matter how long it is in the block since I only use it for quick follow up shots.
