Lock & side plate inletting fix(es)

I'm dealing with locks that are poorly inflated. Possibly they fit better originally but the wood around them has been damaged, causing gaps. The stock is very dark wood and I am reluctant to try adding wood for fear that I cannot match it. Are there any threads, or even better videos to educate me a little? Thanks.

Pictures would really help. Without seeing it’s impossible to give any informed advice.

There’s some things that can be done but again without seeing the actual item, that advice may not apply.

In many cases like this, one approach is to inlet a piece of wood into the entire lock inlet, and glue it into place, and re-inlet the lock. Usually the edges have to be cleaned up, cut back to clean wood with a perpendicular edge, before inletting the new piece.
