I recently finished a Jim Chambers smooth rifle that is 62" long. Now I need a case this long. I know that Cabelas lists a hard case that is 63" long. When I look at the folded aluminum edge I have to wonder if my gun would fit. I will be happy with a good soft case or hard. Thanks!

when I built a Dixie Tenn poor boy, years ago, I needed a really long case...had little money, so I took an old blanket and cut and sewed my own..still use it...oh, and I turned the scraps into a shoe polishing rag...waste not, want not..Hank

I bought one of Cabella's aluminum cases for my Chambers' Lancaster. It is barely long enough to hold the Lancaster and if packed very carefully my wife's little Jukar will fit without the two rifles touching.

If I had it to do over, I think I would buy the case made by Firelocker. If I remember correctly, their ads state the case shown in the ad contained two Chambers' Lancasters.

Hope this helps,

Richard/Ga.

I am in the same boat. I think my best bet would be to make one out of some nice pine and felt the in side

My brother had me make several lockable cases for muzzle loaders the longest one was made to carry the long trade guns that he frequently sold. I finished about 6 cases in pine and they turned out beautifly but when I went to take them to him the longest one wouldn't fit in the cab of my super cab Pick up :hmm: The cases sold in his trade tent like hot cakes except the long one kept coming back because, yep you guessed it, it wouldn't fit in a pick up. No matter how you turned it, it would not fit and still get the door closed. I believe the case has been sold and returned about 6 times now and I still have it.

I would think that the wooden boxes would be not only bulkier, but also much heavier than an aluminun case. :hmm:

BTW does any body have a website or info for Firelocker cases so I can take a gander at one?

Davy

Paul at Northwest Traders makes longrifle cases; Witney blanket cases and also wool-lined leather cases(approx $45 and 135, respectively). He custom makes'em so can make any length you want. My wife bought me one of each and the quality is excellent.

Dixie Gun Works has cases for 44" barreled guns, and Panther Primitives has an oil cloth case that the dixie slips right into. The dixie case is a soft padded one for about $6.oo to $8.oo. The Panther is around $12.oo
