Join your local black powder club. Go to a shoot and talk. Once you put the word out that you want to buy, the guys will come up with a rifle for you pronto... and at a decent price.

We don't have a local blackpowder club just a regular rifle club and my dad definitely doesn't want to make a gun from a kit because that would be too difficult.

Ever build on of those new type model car kits that snap together? its about that simple with a traditions kit gun!
...sand and finish for the most part!

I have been offered several t/c renegades and we've pretty much decided on one but are waiting a few days to think it all over.

luie,

If you're not in a real big hurry and can wait a week or 3, have your dad give me a call. I can let him try out several different kinds/brands of rifles before he makes the choice if you guys want to get together for some shooting. We ain't that far apart. If you're interested PT me and I'll give you my phone number.

We've decided to get a lightly used t/c renegade. We have even seen one at a flea market but didn't buy it since it had a bunch of rust on it. We haven't gotten it yet since we haven't had much time. I might wait until after christmas since the shipping situation would take forever since people are sending tons of other things through ups.

Well Luie, the offer is a good one if your dad would like to shoot a couple to see what he likes before he buys one. I can let him shoot my GPR, a Renegade, a CVA, a custom flinter, a Bess... All for the cost of a phone call. I'll drive over if you got the place to shoot 'em. Ya oughta give him the option.
None of them guns are currently for sale so he'd still hafta go and find one to buy but at least he'd know what he likes best.

I just might some day but I have found my dad a gun and closed the deal today. Now all I have to do is send the money order.

Wow,
an offer to shoot a bunch of guns I dont own and wont have to clean, nor buy the balls!

Sounds like christmas to me!
Thats a hard one to walk away from.

Jethro, may your christmas be as good as the offer made here!

Aw shucks Brett, I'll let you shoot 'em too, but... you gotta do the driving.
Merry Christmas to you too.

We received my dads t/c renegade .50 cal from ronrryan from here on the forum. The gun is great! The gun has good balance but is a little heavy. We are gonna go shoot our bp guns tomorrow morning. Hope I don't get frostbite in these sub zero temps we got now.

Glad to hear you like the gun. Yes the renegades are a little heavy with that one inch barrel, but on the other hand they are usually very accurate which may be due to the same heavy stable barrel.. I think oncd you get the "hang" of the barrel you all will be shooting cloverleafs. Good smoke, Ron

We are going to go shoot tomorrow afternoon. I am going to have to be shooting pyrodex and probably a .490 ball and a .010 patch. I'll tell you how it goes after tomorrow.

10 thou sounds too thin for a patch, I would try 15--18 with 490 balls, in another gun I used to use 495 ball anmd 18 patch, never used pyrodex but I hear it is not as good as black and rusts more. But enjoy the fun, thats the main thing, Good smoke, Ron

Im looking for a percussion rifle i have looked at a traditions pennsyvania rifle and a pedrsoli as well as a great plains. don't know what i really want as of yet my price range is similar, are there any clubs close to st joe missouri? when i first started looking i thought i knew what i wanted but on this forum as well as another after chatting and reading im more confused now than ever. i want something to hunt with but thinking of reenactments too. but i guess my time frame would be 1850 ish as i have a bowler i look good in and would love to wear it too. i also have a cva kentucky long pistol i want to use. any ideas?
