I have an undated Mowrey catalogue with a Waldron Indiana address on the cover. It doesn’t have any information on a .40 caliber rifle. It describes “Mowrey’s Squirrel Rifle” in .36 and .45 and has an article on Mowrey’s “1IN30” conical hunting rifle in .50 caliber. The rest of the catalogue just lists accessories, bullets, and powder. I got the catalogue with my .50 rifle with the brass lock/receiver when I bought it from a forum member about three years ago.

The catalogue just has what appear to be articles or reviews written by others about Mowrey’s rifles - no instructions or other useful information. But if you think any of this might be helpful I’d be happy to send you a pdf copy.

The original receipt, unfortunately also undated, was stuck in the back of the catalogue and shows the rifle sold for $82.50 plus $3.65 for shipping. 😳

If you GOOGLE search Mowrey, you'll find lots of info on them and a few advertisements. I haven't seen an instruction manual, but there is a nice 6-page article on them (focus is on the .50 caliber) in the 1972 "Black powder gun Digest". Attached is part of one of their early ads from when the company was in Texas.

My scanner is not connected so I can't send a copy of my old catalogue (yet), but I found this in an old MLF thread. It seems to be more of what @OLUT shared above.

@OLUT - do you know a lot about Mowrey's guns? Mine is an Ethan Allen "plains rifle" serial number 10256. I'd like to know where and when it was made. Interestingly, the name "Mowry" is misspelled on the gun in very small engraved letters. Except for the caliber "50" there are no other markings.

Thanks for that. I did google. Haven’t found an ad for the 40 yet. Was also just curious what the owners manual looked like.

Thanks for that, also.
