There is a point on the stock where your eye is on the same level as the sights. If there is substantial drop, the further you move your face back on the stock, the more you have to lift your head to see the sights.
I find this to be much more of a problem with traditional muzzle loader stocks because of the enhanced degree of drop. One thing it does is to really affect your selection of sights. Last year I wasted a lot of time being frustrated by the poor accuracy I was getting after changing my sights until I (duh!) realized that the new ones were forcing me to raise my head slightly off the stock to align them. Consistency, of course, was impossible.

But I'll also concede at this point that real men don't need sights. :rolleyes: Or at least they don't need accurate ones in order to shoot accurately.

It's the only way to achieve consistency, although we all have our own particular take on exactly what "tight" means.
