You can buy Brass Agers. But, on the cheap, clean it VERY well with acetone and then wipe it with white vinegar and let it sit a few hours. Then whipe it with Hydrogen Peroxide and dunk it in water after 15 minutes. Repeat until as cruddy as you desire.

I have found that polishing the brass and wiping it annually with boiled linseed oil eventually gives it a perfect patina without lichen-like "oopses".
