Yes, the T/C rifle is that much better than any Traditions rifle you can name! The Lyman GPR is also very good, and costs less money. Those are the two production half stock rifles that are well worth the money. You won't be disappointed with either. The T/C comes with a lifetime warranty, which most people think is worth the extra cost.

I'll let you know my opinion on the Lyman later in the week  I fund one on here at a price I just couldn't refuse, it should be here today & I can't wait! I ended up going percussion rather than flint simply due to the unavailability of proper BP in the area.
Mind you, I'm still going to keep saving up for a nice fullstock flinter. I'm sure I'll find some powder eventually!

You can order powder from a distributor in 5-10-25 pound lots. If you pool with several shooters you can save per pound on the Haz Mat fees too by ordering more powder.
The difficulty in getting BP is grossly overrated.

The factory mades are all about the same.
Mass produced and shipped to sell "competitively".
Some might be better than another but the differences are not significant.

A good custom will appreciate over the years unless its really beat or sloppily built in the first place. I think that a ML rifle should be pleasant to look at and display good workmanship.
The factory mades are very poor in this area. The semi-customs are somewhat better but the good rifles are hands down better. A Kentucky or a Hawken has to LOOK like one to be one. Putting a side lock in a poorly shaped mass produced stock does not a good ML make.

Well, yeah I can order cased amounts from Powders inc. etc, but as I don't know of any other BP shooters, sharing powder is not possible. Even just buying 5 pounds is prohibitively expensive when you factor in the $45 HAZMAT.

Seriously, finding real Black in Tennessee is pretty dang difficult!

I believe Bass Pro Shop in Nashville still has real BP. You might save your HazMat fees by just driving there, but I would give 'em a call first.

A quick check at Powder Inc. shows the following prices for Goex in one pound cans. You can mix granulations in the order which includes shipping & hazmat fees:

5 lbs powder @ $21.10 per lb
10 lbs powder @ $16.95 per lb
25 lbs powder @ $13.85 per lb

Other suppliers may be even better

You may want to go to the NMLRA website and look up muzzleloading clubs in your area. Many clubs do group purchases of black powder.A good way to meet others with a common interest. Black powder shooters for the most part tend to be a great bunch to get along with.

Howdy Rob...Did you buy a GPR?

Hey, I'll go in on 5 lb of 2F with ya......course, you'd have to deliver it :blah:

I go about 2 hrs for powder. I don't drive that far just for powder but I buy a pound whenever I'm in the neighborhood.

I believe the HAZMAT fee should be $22.50 these days. If a dealer is charging you more, you're getting ripped off.
